Book Tag Friday: The Bookish Theatre Tag

Hey Everyone,

Today's tag post is one that I saw Bekah over at Bekah AwesomeBookNut on YouTube do earlier this week. I thought that it looked like a lot of fun and figured why not do it for you guys today. I love musicals and so I think this is the perfect tag for me as I get to combine books with theatre shows. This awesome tag was originally created by Julia over at Novel Noise on YouTube. Be sure to check out both Bekah's video and Julia's video of this tag as they are both pretty awesome. Now let's get into the tag!

1. Spring Awakening
(Favourite translated book)

The Strange Library By Haruki Murakami: Translated from Japanese, This was such a clever little novella about a boy who gets trapped in his local library. It was both creepy but also really creative story full of interesting text and illustrations that I will probably read over and over again for many more years to come.

2. Into the Woods
(Favourite fairytale retelling)

Fathomless By Jackson Pearse: I honestly haven't read very many fairytale retellings but out of the ones I have read I would definitely have to say that Fathomless is definitely my favourite. It's such a dark and twisted take on The Little Mermaid, and I absolutely loved it. The Little Mermaid is one of my favourite stories and this was a great retelling.

3. Beauty and the Beast
(A book from your childhood)

The Girl With The Silver Eyes By Willo Davis Roberts: This was probably one of the first books I actually remember loving when I was in primary school. I bought it from my school library book sale for $0.50 and used to read it over and over again. I really want to give this book a good reread as it really blew my mind as a child.

4. Wicked
(Best character development)

Neville Longbottom from the Harry Potter Series By J.K. Rowling: There are so many characters that come to mind for this question but I wanted to mention one that I don't think I've spoken about before. From book 1 up until the very end, Neville continued to grow and become a stronger character. He starts off as the laughing stock and constantly seen as weak but then becomes some completely different. I loved watching him grow.

5. Phantom of the Opera
(Least favourite love triangle)

The Twilight Saga By Stephenie Meyer: Bella, Edward and Jacob would have to be the worst love triangle. When I first read this series, I straight away took a dislike to Jacob but purely because of his undying love for Bella. Don't get me wrong, Jacob was a great character but for Bella, he was the worst but they may have been simply because I loved Edward. Anyways, I definitely did not like this love triangle.

6. Rent
(Favourite group of friends)

Maybe, Someday By Colleen Hoover: This was such a hard question as I haven't read about very many friendship groups. I decided to go with the room-mates in this book as they are technically a group of friends but they are dysfunctional one at that. I loved the banter among them and the way they used to treat each other but you always knew that they loved each other.

7. West Side Story
(Favourite spin-off/adaptation)

Wicked: The Life And Times Of The Wicked Witch Of The West By Gregory Maguire: This book is a spin-off kind of story of The Wizard Of OZ by L. Frank Baum. I really loved this book as it is such a great story of what the wicked witch was like even before Dorothy ended up in OZ. It is so much more darker and mysterious than I thought it would be when I first went into the book but it all made sense and seemed to fit with the classic story that I knew and loved.

8. Les Miserables
(Most tragic death)

One Day by David Nicholls: Not wanting to spoil anything but if you've read this book or seen the movie you will know what I am talking about. I have read a lot of really sad deaths but this was one that definitely took me by surprise and really broke my heart that I still can't get over it.

9. Aida
(Star-crossed lovers/tragic love story)

All The Bright Place By Jennifer Niven: Again I don't want to spoil anything but this was a great book and the characters in this story definitely have a tragic love story. It was so beautifully written and really left me in tears by the end. Everyone needs to read this book.

10. Hamilton
(Book that made you love the genre)

A Walk To Remember By Nicholas Sparks: This book definitely got me into romance/contemporary novels. It was probably the first book I read where I just totally fell in love with the couple and the characters that from then on I was hooked to the genre. Contemporary/Romance books are my favourite and has been for a really long time, so I have this book to thank for that.

BONUS QUESTIONS:

11. Last Five Years
(Dysfunctional couple)

Ugly Love By Colleen Hoover: Tate & Miles were such a weird and complicated relationship that I did not enjoy reading about. The story is about these two people that are attracted to each other but instead of being in a serious relationship they decide to have a casual relationship. It was very dysfunctional and this may be an unpopular opinion but it really did work well.

12. [title of show]
(Underrated book/series)

Trouble By Non Pratt: I absolutely love this book and I really don't hear very many people talk about it. It surrounds teen pregnancy, friendships and growing up. I think more people need to read and talk about this book because it is definitely one of my favourites and it was such an easy read too. Totally underrated!

13. Little Women
(Favourite family relationship)

If I Stay By Gayle Forman: The family in this story was amazing. Mia's family is so close to each other and had such a great connection that I really admired it. They are definitely very different from my family but they also remind me of the closeness I have with them. I also really loved how one thing that brought them together was their common love for music. The family moments were truly my favourite bits of the whole book.

So that was The Bookish Theatre Tag. I had a lot of fun doing this tag and hope you all enjoyed reading it too. Be sure to check out the booktubers that I mentioned in this post as they are amazing. Also if you have any tags that you would like me to see, please leave your suggestion down in the comments as I am always looking for tags to complete.

I decided not to tag anyone for this tag as I'm not entirely sure who would be interested to do this tag as I know musical theatre isn't for everyone. So if you would like to do it, I tag you and be sure to also leave me a link in the comments so I can check out your answers

Hope you are all having a wonderful day!

~Louise
